I wanted a new challenge outside of my busy job as a police officer and really fancied doing a triathlon, however I couldn’t swim!  I took a few lessons and with the help of my fiancée Matt I learned the art of front crawl and completed my first triathlon The QE2 sprint Tri in 2011.  I did a few more that year however I didn’t really know how to train and ended up being continually  injured. I decided to go to Paul at F4L Triathlon Coaching for help in June 2012.  Immediately I had structured program to follow and I wasn’t running all of the time which was what had led to my injuries in the past.  In a few weeks my fitness and confidence improved and I even made it onto the podium with a third place overall finish at the Northumberland Standard Sprint Triathlon.  I continued to improve over the season, knocking around 10 minutes off my times from the previous year. Training around shift work is demanding and often difficult, however Paul takes all this into consideration and builds my program around my shifts. All I have to do is open my Iphone App and follow the plan. I am looking forward to a consistent winter of training and working toward my goals for 2013 which is going to be trying to qualify for the Sprint Championships in London in September.  I never thought that this would be within my reach however with Paul’s encouragement I am going to go for it!   My swim still needs some work and with Paul’s swim coaching and video analysis I am improving all of the time. I have met lots of friends through F4L Triathlon Coaching and it is great having training buddies. I would recommend F4L to anyone who wants to improve with a balanced plan. Paul’s coaching has made such a difference to my performance, training and outlook, I wouldn’t be without it.
