Welcome back Gary… the triathlete!

Why do you do Triathlon: Originally I took up Triathlon as a progression from running. Ironman caught my eye at an early age (19) but i went back to football and took Triathlon back up 2004/5. First race back was one of Paul’s ‘NE Aquathlon champs’. Over recent years I have been doing triathlon to help my hometown club develop, I also spent time on the regional committee. I held a few races and open water swimming sessions at Hartlepool Marina. I have also coached at a club/group level after completing my L2 course a few years back.

What is your sporting background: High Jump, 400m, 400Hurdles, football, rugby, cross country, road running.

What attracted you to F4L: I’ve been here before!! I’ve worked with Paul 2011-2013. This period was my most successful in Triathlon before needing two operations due to years of football. I had a conversation with Paul at a race at the end of the summer (2019) and learnt that he was back from Perth. I knew I wanted to touch base again BUT took longer than I should.

What are your targets: Firstly to get consistent. Long term sub 10 hour I.M.

Favourite motivational quote: one I share with my pupils all the time……Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard!!

Favourite training song / music track: Anything 90’s dance.
