Introducing Stef – An F4L Triathlete for the last 7 years!

I have been fortunate to work with Stef for the last seven... yes SEVEN years... we keep getting better, even when we have the odd curve ball thrown at us from time to time.  Its a pleasure to coach him.

F4L Triathlete: Stef

Based in the Middle East, where hot really is hot, Stef raced at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in 2018.

Why do you do Triathlon: Lots of reasons but I like the challenge, the fact it keeps me fit (and the weight off!), isn’t just one activity so keeps me interested and it’s an incredibly supportive and friendly environment to be in. Especially here in Dubai, the camaraderie (and competition!) is fantastic.

What is your sporting back ground: None really, I dabbled a bit in long-distance running, did a few triathlons mid-late 90s and have always ridden a bike, but it wasn’t until my 50s that I really took the plunge an entered a full-distance IM.

What attracted you to F4L: I wanted to do the whole IRONMAN thing properly and realized I needed a coach. I liked their approach and have been here ever since…7 years!!

What are your targets: Keep fit and motivated, but I would like to qualify for 70.3 World Champs again if I’m honest. It was such an amazing experience, I’d love to have another go and do better than last time.

Favourite motivational quote: There are too many to choose from. I give myself a TLA (three letter abbreviation) for most races to spur me on and help me remember key points. They’re rarely the same and they help me to focus for instance on my running form, or nutrition on the bike. Might sound silly but it’s always worked for me.

Favourite training song/music track: I love music and have a very wide spectrum of genres in my “favourite” list. However, I’ve never listened to music while training, but have always preferred to let my mind de-clutter, especially after a stressful or problematic work day. I find this really helps me to look at problems from a different perspective and come to some workable solutions.
